Do you want to learn how to document your Power BI projects? In a recent webinar with Sr. Consultant, Kirill Perian, you’ll learn Power BI’s internal documentation capabilities as well as look at some other tools available to document your Power BI models and reports.
One big reason for documentation is if a project needs to be turned over to another person, when someone leaves a job for instance, it’s the easiest way for the next person to get going on the project. Kirill touches upon the benefits of having a functional spec before you design your technical spec and start your development.
But the main focus in this webinar is how documentation is the key to data lineage. In modern business intelligence projects, understanding the flow of data from the data source to its destination is a big challenge for many customers. Typically there is the need to explain the origin, purpose of the different tables; how and why transformations are done in queries; how and why relationships are set up as is.
Kirill will tell you the questions you need to answer before you begin to document, in other words, the who, what, why, when and where of how to document. Plus, he’ll explain why the biggest key word in documentation is balance.
The remainder of the presentation is spent on a demo of documenting Power BI projects. You can watch the complete webinar below.
