Kansas State University’s Beef Cattle Institute (KSU/BCI) provides research and solutions for veterinarians and producers in the beef industry. They were looking to augment/enhance their existing dataset for better insights. The institute receives data from numerous cattle feedlots and wanted to use Azure to enhance and analyze that data and to enrich it with other sources such as weather and geospatial APIs. The institute’s challenges with data include ingestion, cleansing, and organizing and using data from more sources to input into their machine learning models.
3Cloud deployed an Azure Data & Analytics Platform and used Azure Synapse Notebooks to empower KSU/BCI to use Azure to enhance and analyze data for actionable results by helping them to ingest, cleanse, organize and enrich their data. We also built an operationalized model with an initial pipeline to extract weather data with an API as the first step for an ETL process where BCI can easily add more data sources for their predictive models with repeatable, parameterized scripts. In addition, 3Cloud showed the client what is possible with Azure products, as well as best practices to enable them to move forward with their goals to gain value from data and to use Power BI for reporting/visualizations.
The solution 3Cloud provided helped KSU/BCI to use Azure to enhance and analyze data for actionable results. The Azure Data & Analytics Platform that we deployed improved their data processes, including creating operationalized, repeatable scripts so researchers can easily replicate pipelines and add data sources. This impactful first step enables researchers to provide solutions for better insights and decisions for veterinarians, beef producers and beef product consumers in regard to animal health. It also puts the Beef Cattle Institute on the path to more successful research.
